Original Group Resorts Reviews
These Are Not Your Typical Adults-Only Resorts
There are adults-only resorts. And then there is Original Group. Because removing the kids is one thing. Building an entire vacation experience around the idea that grown people should be able to actually act grown is something completely different. Original Group has spent decades occupying a corner of Mexican Caribbean hospitality that most major hotel companies won't touch. The company's best-known resort concepts, Temptation Resorts and Desire Resorts, aren't simply places that happen to restrict the guest list to adults. The fact that everyone is grown is part of the experience.
Some hotel companies sell luxury. Some sell relaxation. Some sell family vacations. Original Group sells freedom. Based in Mexico, Original Group operates in a very particular corner of adults-only hospitality. Its best-known resort brands, Temptation Resorts and Desire Resorts, are built for travelers who aren't necessarily looking for the quietest pool, the earliest bedtime or the most traditional definition of a romantic getaway. And yes, there is a difference between the two. A pretty significant one. Temptation brings the party, social atmosphere and playful side of adults-only travel. Desire takes the conversation somewhere considerably more intimate. BlkTravel ranks both because grown travelers deserve the same thing every other traveler does: Enough information to know exactly what kind of vacation they're booking.
The pools are social. The nightlife matters. People actually meet each other. Swimwear gets adventurous. Couples arrive knowing this probably isn't going to feel like four quiet days at the Hyatt. But there are levels to this. And understanding the difference between Temptation and Desire is probably more important than deciding whether Original Group itself sounds interesting. Because one says: Come party with us. The other gives you a look and says: Are you sure?
Welcome to Original Group.

The Original Group Experience
Let's get something out of the way. Adults-only doesn't always mean the same thing. At some resorts, it simply means there won't be children at the pool. Original Group takes considerably more advantage of the word “adults.”
These are social resorts. People meet people. Couples meet couples. The pools have energy. The entertainment gets playful. The dress code occasionally seems more like a suggestion about how much you have to wear than how much you should. And the atmosphere intentionally removes some of the awkwardness that normally comes with grown people admitting that they're interested in... grown people things.
That's about as specific as we need to get. What makes the Original Group experience interesting isn't simply that the resorts push boundaries. It's that they create environments where guests generally arrive understanding that everybody else read the brochure too. That changes the atmosphere.
You don't have to participate in everything happening around you. You don't even have to be particularly adventurous. But you probably shouldn't arrive shocked that the couple you met at breakfast has a substantially more interesting vacation planned than snorkeling at 2:00.
Original Group isn't for everybody. That's kind of the point.

About the Brands
TEMPTATION RESORTS - Temptation is the party. This is the more approachable side of Original Group and the brand we'd recommend first to travelers who are curious about this style of adults-only vacation without necessarily wanting to jump into the deep end.
Expect DJs, pool parties, themed nights, provocative entertainment, social crowds and plenty of opportunities to wear something you bought specifically because you couldn't imagine wearing it anywhere back home. Temptation can still simply be a really fun adults-only vacation. Come with your partner. Come with friends. Celebrate a birthday. Dance until entirely too late. Meet people. Flirt a little. Or don't. You control how far your vacation goes. That's a huge part of Temptation's appeal.
DESIRE RESORTS - Desire starts where Temptation politely stops. It's couples-focused, smaller, more intimate and designed for travelers who hear the phrase “open-minded resort” and don't need us to explain what the quotation marks are doing. The energy is different. Temptation feels like everybody got invited to the party.
Desire feels like somebody leaned over during the party and quietly asked: “Y'all coming?” We're going to leave that right there. The important distinction isn't that one is “better” than the other. They're serving different travelers. Temptation is about the social freedom of an adults-only party. Desire is about the freedom couples may want to explore together. Know which conversation you're trying to have before you book.
When is the right time?
Original Group isn't where we'd automatically send somebody for their first romantic vacation together. But once you've been together long enough to know each other's boundaries? Now we're talking.
Temptation makes sense for birthdays, couples trips, friend trips and those vacations where everybody has already agreed that relaxation is absolutely not the primary objective. It's also the easier entry point for somebody who has looked at this entire category of travel from a distance and thought: I don't know about all that...but that pool party looks fun. Fair enough. Start there.
Desire requires a different conversation. This is the vacation you book after you've already had the conversation before the conversation. You should know what your partner is comfortable with. You should know what you're comfortable with. And perhaps most importantly, both of you should understand that curiosity isn't consent to anything beyond being curious.
That's what makes the right time for Desire less about an anniversary number and more about the relationship itself. For some couples, that's year two. For others, year twenty. For plenty? Never. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
