Revel gives you polish, District gives you production, and U Bar and Central Station take you into the Southside. MJQ gives you underground Atlanta.

It also keeps this ranking from becoming a list of sections and bottle service. With late nights, decades of local history and a dance-first identity, MJQ deserves its place among Atlanta's essential clubs. MJQ is for people who came to dance. That's refreshing in Atlanta, where nightlife can sometimes feel like everybody paid hundreds of dollars for somewhere to sit. MJQ strips much of that away. No elaborate section culture, no need to build the night around bottle service, and considerably less pressure to turn yourself into part of the scenery. The DJ and dance floor are the attraction.

Its new home at Underground Atlanta changed the address, but the appeal remains the same: an eclectic crowd, late nights and music that can move well beyond Atlanta's standard hip-hop club formula. This is one of the better choices on our list when your group has different tastes but everybody agrees they actually want to move. MJQ also has something you can't build with a multimillion-dollar nightclub renovation: Atlanta credibility. It's been part of the city's nightlife story for decades, and experiencing it gives visitors a look at another side of Atlanta after dark.
