Edition Hotels Review

If W is the friend who says, “Where we going tonight?” EDITION is the friend who already made the reservation. That's why these two brands can both rank this high without doing the same thing. EDITION is sexy without needing to scream sexy. The lighting is right. The lobby smells expensive. The bar makes you want to sit down even though you weren't planning to drink. The restaurant is somewhere locals might actually make reservations. And the crowd can become part of the experience without the entire hotel feeling like somebody turned a nightclub into a Marriott.

This is lifestyle luxury for grown folks.

And that's important because EDITION was conceived specifically around bringing together design, food, beverage, entertainment and highly personalized service. Its hotels are intended to function as social spaces where hotel guests and locals actually mix. That's a formula BlkTravel understands immediately. We don't just care about the thread count. We care about what's downstairs.

Don’t mistake this for some cookie cutter hotel. One of EDITION's biggest strengths is that the hotels aren't supposed to look alike. That's intentional. The brand currently stretches across destinations including Miami Beach, New York, West Hollywood, Riviera Maya, London, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Bodrum, Reykjavik, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo, with additional expansion underway. And the experience changes with the destination.

Miami Beach gives you oceanfront pools, dining and a resort atmosphere. Times Square puts a luxury retreat above one of the busiest places on Earth, then adds restaurants, terraces and the nightlife-driven Paradise Club. Riviera Maya turns EDITION into a beachfront Mexican resort. Bodrum gives it Mediterranean summer energy. Rome feels like Rome. Tokyo feels like Tokyo. That's the point.

EDITION isn't asking the destination to conform to the hotel. The hotel is supposed to absorb some of the destination. So when we ask why does EDITION matter to Black Travelers, its because there comes a point where we don't necessarily want the party hotel. We want the hotel where the people going to the party are staying. That's different. EDITION fits the traveler who still cares about music, cocktails, restaurants, fashion, nightlife and who's in the room, but wants the entire experience elevated another level.

This is: The grown birthday. The anniversary where we're actually getting dressed for dinner. The Miami trip where the hotel needs to match the outfits. The international trip where we're spending money and want to feel it. The couples weekend where we might go out, but staying downstairs for drinks wouldn't exactly ruin the night. And unlike some traditional luxury brands, EDITION doesn't make contemporary culture feel like something happening outside the hotel.

It's intentionally part of the product.

The BlkTravel Take

Intentional

EDITION could easily beat several brands above it on pure luxury.

That's not what we're ranking.

We're ranking the overall usefulness of a hotel brand to the BlkTravel traveler. And EDITION's biggest weakness is also part of what makes it special: There just aren't enough of them yet.

Its current footprint is considerably smaller than brands like InterContinental, W or RIU. But the portfolio is expanding, with future destinations listed by EDITION including Bali, Cape Town, Dallas, Detroit, Mexico City, Milan, Mumbai, Nashville and others.

So #6 isn't us saying EDITION isn't as good as the five brands above it. At the right property? EDITION might be better. But our Hotel Brand Rankings aren't asking which company can produce the single nicest stay. We're asking which brands we can repeatedly put in front of Black travelers across the kinds of destinations and vacations they're actually booking.

And EDITION is still building that reach.

What already exists, though?

Yeah. We want to stay there.
