See monuments built by civilizations that existed long before the modern world. And sometimes confront history that is uncomfortable, complicated, or directly connected to who we are today.

BlkTravel's Top Historic Destinations is not a ranking of the world's oldest cities or a checklist of famous monuments. We are looking for destinations where history becomes a meaningful part of the trip. That can mean exploring Black American history in Charleston, Savannah, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Washington, D.C., tracing connections to the African continent in Ghana and Ethiopia, standing beside the pyramids in Egypt, or walking through cities like Paris, Venice, Kyoto, Istanbul, Mexico City, and Athens where entire eras remain visible around you.

Some of these stories are triumphant. Others involve slavery, colonization, revolution, war, migration, religion, art, resistance, and the rise and fall of civilizations. We are not looking for one kind of history because our history did not happen in one place.

These are destinations that give you something to bring home beyond pictures. You leave knowing a little more about the place, the people who shaped it, and sometimes your own place in a much bigger story.
