Peters Street Station

Peters Street Station is a multidisciplinary art and community space in Castleberry Hill, built around the idea that Atlanta artists need places to create, exhibit, collaborate and build something of their own. The space remains active at 333 Peters Street SW. This is the side of Atlanta's art world we absolutely wanted on this list. Not just finished art. The ecosystem that creates it.

Peters Street Station grew from artist and tattoo pioneer Miya Bailey's vision for a community-centered creative space. Tattooing is part of that story, but Peters Street Station stretches considerably further into visual art, exhibitions, film and multidisciplinary creative work. And the surrounding Peters Street creative ecosystem has continued evolving. Bailey's larger WALKER & PETERS Project now includes neighboring galleries and creative spaces, turning this stretch of Castleberry Hill into something visitors interested in Atlanta's independent arts scene should actually know about. That's the BlkTravel appeal.

This isn't Black creativity packaged neatly for tourists. This is where some of the people creating Atlanta culture actually work. Check current exhibitions and events before visiting because the experience is programming-driven rather than a traditional museum with the same permanent display every day.

Atlanta

Peters Street Station isn't #13 because twelve places are necessarily more culturally important.

It's #13 because we're ranking experiences for Atlanta travelers.

And this experience depends heavily on timing.

When Peters Street Station has a major exhibition, anniversary celebration, jam session or cultural event happening? Move it way up your personal list.

The history backs that up. Major City of Ink anniversary events have spilled across Peters Street Station and neighboring creative spaces, bringing together large numbers of artists, DJs and the broader Atlanta creative community. That's the Peters Street Station we want BlkTravel travelers to experience.

Not just the building. The building activated.
