Phipps Plaza
Atlanta has plenty of malls. Phipps is where you go when the label matters.
Let's clear something up. Phipps falling to #9 doesn't mean Phipps got worse. It means this isn't a ranking of Atlanta's fanciest shopping centers. If it were, Phipps would be fighting for #1. Phipps Plaza is the quieter, more luxurious counterpart to Lenox Square across Peachtree Road. Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom anchor a retail mix built considerably more around premium and designer shopping. If you know exactly what you're looking for and there's a designer name attached to it, check Phipps.
But here's why we moved it down. We already gave you Lenox at #1. We gave you Buckhead Village at #2. By the time we reach Phipps, we've already covered two excellent ways to shop luxury Atlanta. And we're not going to let luxury occupy half of our Top 10 simply because expensive shopping photographs well. Cumberland tells us more about how Black Atlanta has shopped. Little Five Points gives you something independent. Old National connects you directly with entrepreneurs. Plaza Fiesta introduces another cultural Atlanta. Those things matter in our ranking too.
So Phipps lands at #9. And somehow that's still a compliment. Because when you actually want Phipps, none of those other places replaces it. Put something decent on. Cross Peachtree. And try not to look at the price tag too long.
The BlkTravel Take
Designer
Quiet
Refined
Phipps remains one of Atlanta's essential luxury shopping destinations.
But luxury isn't automatically authority on a BlkTravel list.
We've ranked the shopping experience for our traveler, not prestige. That's why several less glamorous places beat it.
Still, Phipps serves a shopper the rest of this list can't completely replace.
And if that's you?
You already know why you're here.
