Apache XLR Atlanta

Apache XLR brings visual art, poetry, live music, food and performance into the same room, creating the kind of Atlanta cultural experience where you come for a show and end up experiencing several art forms at once. Some art hangs on a wall. Some grabs the microphone. Apache belongs on this list because Atlanta arts and culture would be incomplete if we acted like visual art were the only art that counted.

Poetry counts. Music counts. Spoken word counts. Performance counts. Apache has been around since 2004 and describes itself as a Black woman-owned home for culture, cuisine and creativity. Today, its Downtown location combines dinner and brunch with scheduled live programming, visual art and its longstanding open-mic culture. That's an Atlanta night.

Eat. Get a drink. Hear somebody sing. Watch a poet walk up to the microphone and change the entire mood of the room. Then realize the artwork surrounding you is part of the experience too. BlkTravel would choose Apache for: spoken word, live music, Black creatives, date night, emerging artists and visitors who want culture with some energy behind it.

The BlkTravel Take

Soulful

Live

Creative

Apache earns #8 because it represents living culture.

There's no glass separating you from the art.

The artist may be ten feet away.

And depending on the night, the next person onstage may be somebody you've never heard of who absolutely should be on your playlist tomorrow.

@theinitiative_ Downtown Atlanta’s own Apache continues to be a home for Black creativity, culture, and connection. From live performances to community gatherings, this space keeps the city’s artistic heartbeat alive. We’re grateful for the way Apache shows up for the culture, the artists, and the community. Black creativity has always been more than art it’s been a source of healing, truth‑telling, resistance, and collective power. It’s how our stories are preserved, how our voices are amplified, and how our communities imagine new futures. Apache embodies that legacy by giving Black artists a platform to be seen, heard, and celebrated. That mission aligns deeply with the work of Black Male Initiative. Just like Apache, BMI is committed to creating spaces where Black people can gather, express themselves, build community, and grow. Spaces like Apache remind us why this work matters and why we continue to invest in our art, and our future. Make sure you stop by Apache XLR for some food, a drink, or a nice show and enjoy the time. #BMIGeorgia #BlackMaleInitiative #LegacyBuilding #community #blackownedbusiness ♬ original sound - Black Male Initiative
