Black Art in America

Black Art in America is more than an East Point gallery. It's part gallery, part sculpture garden, part marketplace and part cultural infrastructure built around documenting, preserving, promoting and creating a stronger market for African American art. There's looking at Black art. There's appreciating Black art. And then there's putting Black art on your walls. Black Art in America wants more of us doing all three.

Founded in 2010 by artist and curator Najee Dorsey and Seteria Dorsey, BAIA has developed into a much broader arts enterprise connecting artists, collectors, museums and communities. Its East Point home brings that mission into a physical Gallery & Sculpture Gardens. And this is where the experience gets especially interesting for BlkTravel. You can buy the art.

Not everything is positioned exclusively for somebody with a six-figure art budget, either. BAIA deliberately works to develop collectors and offers work across periods, mediums and price points, including fine-art prints that can provide a more approachable entrance into collecting. That's important. We spend money decorating our homes. We spend money traveling. We spend money on clothes, watches, bags and everything else that reflects who we are. Maybe it's time some of that money starts ending up on the walls.

The BlkTravel Take

Collectible

Intentional

Collectible

Black Art in America earns #6 because a healthy Black arts ecosystem needs more than talented Black artists.

It needs Black collectors. Black galleries. Black curators. Black publishers. Black institutions.

And a marketplace capable of assigning real economic value to Black creativity.

BAIA works across that entire ecosystem rather than simply hanging artwork and waiting for somebody to walk through the door.
