Cascade Family Skating
Cascade Family Skating combines music, roller skating and generations of Black Atlanta culture into a family experience that gives visitors something considerably more local than another national entertainment attraction. Georgia Aquarium is world-class. Six Flags has the roller coasters. Zoo Atlanta has the animals. Cascade has Atlanta.
That's why it's sitting all the way up at #4. For generations, roller skating has occupied a special place in Black social culture, and Cascade is one of the places where that culture remains alive in Atlanta. This is where parents who grew up skating can put their kids on wheels. It's where somebody discovers that Dad apparently has an entirely different personality once the right song comes on. It's where the kids learn quickly that skating around the rink and really knowing how to skate are two different things.
And yes, the rink's connection to ATL makes it recognizable beyond the city. But Cascade doesn't belong on this list because it appeared in a movie. It appeared in the movie because the culture was already here. That's the difference. For families, make sure you're choosing an appropriate family or all-ages session rather than assuming every session at Cascade has the same crowd and atmosphere.
BlkTravel would choose Cascade for: Black families, roller skating, music, parents and kids, Atlanta culture, active family fun and visitors looking for something genuinely local.

Cascade earns #4 because BlkTravel isn't supposed to produce the same family list every other travel website produces.
Could we put another giant tourist attraction here?
Absolutely.
But if a Black family visits Atlanta and we never tell them to go skating at Cascade, we've missed part of what makes this city special.
The cultural experience matters.
