Renaissance Church of Christ is a large Church of Christ congregation in South Fulton, pairing the denomination's scripture-centered and a cappella traditions with dynamic preaching, an active ministry community and a modern Atlanta worship experience. If you grew up Church of Christ, there are certain things you already understand. And Renaissance gives you that tradition through a distinctly Black Atlanta congregation.

The church was formerly known as West End Church of Christ before relocating to its current South Fulton campus and becoming Renaissance Church of Christ. The congregation moved into its new facility near Hartsfield-Jackson in 2018. Dr. Orpheus J. Heyward originally joined the congregation as an assistant minister in 2003 and was ordained as its evangelist three years later. Under his ministry, Renaissance has grown into one of the country's notable African American Churches of Christ. The church reports more than 2,000 members and it’s recognized as one of the nation's fastest-growing Black Churches of Christ congregations. Why? Because Heyward is a teacher.

He holds graduate degrees in theology and biblical studies as well as a doctorate in theological exegesis, and he also serves on the faculty at Lipscomb University. That scholarship shows up in a ministry that puts considerable emphasis on biblical interpretation and practical application. That's what makes Renaissance important to this guide.
