Northside Tavern Review
Northside Tavern earns #1 because a great bar needs a personality. Atlanta has prettier bars. More expensive bars. Blacker bars. Bars with better cocktails. But very few have this much identity. Northside is the kind of place you couldn't recreate by hiring a designer to make something look old. Its history, music and lack of pretension are the experience.
On a list built to show travelers Atlanta's entire bar culture, that's enough to take the top spot. Atlanta changes fast. Northside Tavern hasn't gotten the memo. And we mean that as a compliment. This is a real dive bar. The room is dark, the drinks aren't trying to win awards, and live blues gives the place a soundtrack that feels connected to an older Atlanta increasingly surrounded by new development.
Don't come here looking for West Midtown luxury just because that's what's outside now. Come for a drink, find somewhere to sit, listen to the band and appreciate a place that still has some grit left. Northside also gives Black travelers something important: access to Atlanta's blues culture without packaging it into a themed tourist experience. BlkTravel would choose Northside Tavern for: live blues, dive-bar nights, cheap drinks, Old Atlanta character, casual dates and travelers tired of everything being curated for Instagram.
