ZuCot Gallery

ZuCot Gallery is the Southeast's largest African American-owned fine art gallery, showcasing original work by living African American artists while making the world of Black art collecting approachable to both experienced collectors and people buying their first piece. We don't just want you to look at Black art. We want you to start thinking about owning some. That's where ZuCot gets interesting.

The Castleberry Hill gallery was founded in 2009 by collector Troy Taylor and today operates from a 3,500-square-foot contemporary gallery showcasing living African American artists. And the collector piece is important. A lot of people love Black art but have never thought of themselves as an art collector. Maybe that sounds like something wealthy people do at auctions while somebody holds up a numbered paddle. ZuCot breaks some of that intimidation down.

The gallery specifically works with both novice and seasoned collectors and combines exhibitions with education about collecting original Black art. So yes, come look. But don't be surprised if you leave thinking: That would look good in my house. Now we're talking. BlkTravel would choose ZuCot for: Black art, collectors, couples, sophisticated cultural outings, contemporary art, first-time buyers and travelers looking for something meaningful to bring home.

The BlkTravel Take

Massive

Essential

Amazing

ZuCot earns #2 because it connects culture with ownership.

Museums preserve Black art.

ZuCot asks whether some of that art should be hanging in our homes too.

That's a different relationship with the work, and it's one BlkTravel wants to encourage.

The gallery currently offers free admission and free parking, with Saturday public hours and weekday visits generally by appointment.

@kaa3la Yall I enjoyed this art gallery so much. The story behind the gallery was so beautiful. What the gallery was built resonates into the art they display. They only had black owned local artist that were still living. I definitely have to go back. Thank you @ZuCot Gallery ♬ original sound - Bug 🐞
